The Woodcutter and the Parrot

In a dense forest, a poor farmer was cutting down an old tree with his big axe. As the farmer prepared to return home, a parrot flew in and posed on his right arm. Though married, the poor man had no children. As such, he took the parrot to his hut to take care of him. He properly fed the parrot, gave him to drink and treated him with love and tenderness. Eventually, the farmer and the parrot became inseparable friends. Every day, the bird impatiently waited for the return of the farmer and, at his sight, welcomed him with shouts of joy.

 On day, and in a hole of the old oak tree, the farmer found a small box full of gold pieces. The gold made him rich. As a consequence, and along with his friend the parrot, the farmer moved to a beautiful house. The farmer had a wife. But she was ugly and malicious. In her head, the wife had one thought and one thought only: (To take the money from her husband and to give it to her parents).

One day, and in the presence of the parrot, she asked her brother Mecho to kill her husband in his sleep. The parrot heard her repetitively say: (Tonight, my husband will die in his bed). Having understood her criminal intentions, the parrot impatiently waited for his friend’s return to warm him.

Doubting nothing, the farmer returned home from work. The instant he arrived, the parrot posed on his shoulder and started repeating the following words: (The farmer will be killed tonight in his bed).

The words of the parrot surprised the farmer. Puzzled, the man was thoughtful! Late at night, Mecho, the brother-in-law, plunged his sword several times in the (shape) similar to a body, hidden under the sheets. Naturally, the farmer was not in his bed. Hiding behind the curtain, he saw Mecho, the criminal.

The farmer handed over his wife Vila and his brother-in-law Mecho to the policeman who took them to the station. After ridding himself of his malicious wife, the farmer lived happily ever after with his parrot, who had saved his life.

"Application of Bax Normilasation in Saudi Arabia: The how!"

  This is about Stephan Bax argues that, "Our aim should be to attain a state of `normalisation'
in which the technology is invisible and truly integrated".

      The aim of CALL (Computer Assisted Language) learning according to Stephen Bax’s point of view, is to work towards a situation where computers are fully integrated into pedagogy in a state of “normalisation”. Normalisation refers to the situation in which computers form an integral part of every lesson, so as a pen, notebook or books do. The purpose is not that computers become the center of any lesson but become an integral natural part of it.

   The advantages that normalization of CALL brings into the classroom are many and varied. For instance they connect us with the wider literature on educational changes the wider research an innovation and change and it offers CALL practitioners a clear aim and a clear agenda.

  Stephen Bax and Andrea Chambers tell us that vast research has been conducted to identify the factors impacting the normalisation of CALL positively or negatively. The main factors obstructing normalization are cost and fear. Secondly, training development. Cost and fear mean that technology equipment is expensive and not all schools can afford the disbursement. Fear means that not all teachers feel comfortable about using computers and least of all intelligent white boards. The third main impediment for normalization is lack of training.

    In the Saudi Arabia context, teachers as an integral part of every lesson like a pen or a book. Teachers and students will use them without worry or shyness, and equally without an overstated respect for what they can do. They will not be the centre of any lesson, but they will play a part in almost all. They will be completely integrated into all other aspects of  classroom life, next to course books, teachers and notepads. They will go almost ignored.

          The main drawback of chat communication is that people cannot see each other and don’t actually know each other. Due to chat anonymity, a lot of chat participants play with their identity. For example, a man talking with a teenage girl may pretend to be of the same age as she is, and easily get into her mind thanks to his experience. God knows what might happen then.           A disadvantage is there's no tone with instant messaging. I could say one thing, and mean it very sarcastically, which someone could grasp had they heard me say it over the phone. However, if I simply type it, the sarcasm factor may not be noticed, and the person I'm talking to could take whatever I said the wrong way. That's the only disadvantage I have with it personally. However, some may add about online predators. if you will Some kids, even teens and adults, are as smart as they should be when they talk online. Most people will talk to anyone who IM's, and it's so easy for these predators to beat specific information out of them if they're not using common sense and keeping their guard up.

          The disadvantages of using whiteboards. Interactive whiteboards are more expensive than conventional whiteboards or projector/screen combinations. I want to talk about how would I use blogs, wikis and delicious with my EFL students.    

       

  Blogs has had an influence on my students as it makes writing and speaking more interesting and fun.

   Wikis for ESL class as a way to introduce information and give assignments, display student work, and provide students an opportunity to collaborate with other students learning English in building their own "class wiki" project.  ESL students are currently collaborating with a university EFL class from Mexico to write about themselves and their interests. Every student in both classes has his or her own wiki page which they are responsible for. The students work on their own pages but also read and make comments on the pages of students from the other school.
